St. Peter's

Designed primarily by Donato Bramante, Michelangelo, Carlo Maderno, and Gian Lorenzo Bernini, St. Peter's is the most famous work of Renaissance architecture and the largest church in the world. Although it is neither the mother church of the Catholic Church nor the cathedral of the diocese of Rome, St. Peter's is considered one of the holiest Catholic shrines. It has been described as "holding a unique position in the Christian world" and as "the largest of all the churches in Christendom."

Villa Farnesina

The villa was built for Agostino Chigi, a wealthy Sienese banker and treasurer of Pope Julius II. Between 1506-1510, the Sienese artist and student of Bramante, Baldassarre Peruzzi, aided perhaps by Giuliano da Sangallo, designed and erected the villa. The novelty of this suburban villa design can be discerned from its differences from those of a typical urban palace.
